Unprimed/Unstretched #2

Characteristics of wabi-sabi aesthetics and principles include asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and the appreciation of natural objects and the forces of nature. - Wikipedia,

I want this work in this series to feel from a garden and not of a garden. I lived in Japan for seven years. During that time, I sought out examples of what the Japanese call Wabi and Sabi. I sought to bring to this series aspects of Wabi and Sabi which include asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, the appreciation of natural objects and importantly the forces both seen and unseen of nature. Later that love of nature led to my wife and I moving to Western Washington state to experience firsthand the more remote aspects of nature. For part of that time, we lived in the town of Suquamish and witnessed firsthand the rich traditions and culture of the Suquamish Tribe when the Suquamish Tribe hosted the great Tribal Canoe Journey of Pacific Northwest Tribes at The House of Awakened Culture which was a ten-minute walk from our house ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTL6a8jbj40 ). The works in this series are large and as such there is a difficulty in obtaining a quality image of them due to limited space, etc. I hope to improve this in the future.

Dry Season/Summer Draught, August - Garden Study 2026. Indian Ink on Unprimed Unstretched Canvas. 4 Foot by 5 Foot. Once my wife and I were walking in a park during the summer and a small evergreen tree suddenly burst with a small cloud of pollen. In the height of summer dryness if you pay close attention things are happening.
