Collecting
When collecting art it's easy and logical to purchase works that reflect the surrounding environment of the collector. In Venice an art collector would logically collect works that reflect and bring that unique beauty into their living space...works by artists like Turner and Monet who found Venice and its light inspirational. I always wondered about the art collector from Venice in which the Cleveland Museum of Art purchased two works from Le Dejeuner sur L'Herbre by Max Ernst and The Dream by Dali. The idea of an art collector who collects works that are challenging both to the viewer, and in this case the almost otherworldly beauty of Venice, the environment of the collection in which they lived, fascinates me.
