Two painting in the contemporary art gallery that speak volumes to each other and are seen across from each other are Lot's Wife from 1989 by Kiefer, and Scroll from 1978 by Philip Guston
There are three exceptional paintings in the same gallery at the CMA that primarily speak to me in terms of structure. The structure almost dominates the subject. It fights for attention with the subject. They are Christ on the Cross by El Greco 1600-1610, Crucifixion of St Andrew by Caravaggio 1606-7, and to a lesser extent Holy Family on the Steps 1648 by Poussin
